Home Fries MADNESS!!!

8 Jun

Ahhhhh it feels great to join the blogging world again! For the past couple of months Al and I haven’t been blogging (craziness hit the Aguasvivas/Pagan household), but we sure as hell have been cooking! I mean come on we are foodies for god sakes, we never stop eating. So today I decided it was time!!! It was time to bring out the big guns. Breakfast with the Aguans (We too can be like Brangelina—Aguasvivas + Pagan= Aguans) Loving it! On the menu, eggs over easy, toasted wheat bread, and…drum roll please…. My one and only HOME FRIES!!! Ahhhh they are just savory goodness! Seriously, it’s not because I make them but they are just so damn good!!! My mouth is just watering! Drip! Drip! Okay so let’s get to it!

23 May

I know Al and I have been MIA for a while now but between diets (Errr!!! Still not a pound!), moving into a new apt, and starting a new position (that would be me!), things have just been a little hectic over the past two months. But no worries! Stay tuned as we have a lot of fun surprises coming your way….We’re soooooo excited!!

And FYI: The Cook Off is still happening!!! We will fill you in soon!

Diets are not for Foodies!!!!

Pollo en Rajas Recipe

As you all know, Al and I have been on this crazy diet, which of course hasn’t done a damn thing for me! Not one pound! Not one freaking pound! I mean seriously I’m one step away from starvation! So yesterday, I had an epiphany. Not sure how, considering the lack of nutrients in my system! But I did! My epiphany… I am a FOODIE!! A REAL FOODIE! Not a fake one. Not one that pretends. But just an all around, food crazed, can’t imagine my life without it, FOODIE! And what does a foodie do, EAT!
–Ahhh sorry for the venting session but gosh that felt good to get out! (more…)

Valentine’s Day Extravaganza! Mexican Food at its Finest!

20 Feb

Mexican Enchilada Recipe

This year Al and I decided we would stay in and spend Valentines Day doing what we enjoy most. Yup! That’s right! COOKING!!!! So, I thought I would make it special and cook up Al’s favorite–Mexican food!!! On the menu: Mexican rice, refried beans, and my homemade enchiladas! And for dessert, none other than Mrs. Rodriguez’s flan de coco. If that doesn’t sound amazing, I don’t know what does! (more…)

Shepard’s Pie! Meat and Potatoes, Baby!

18 Feb

Our newly discovered Sunday ritual: Sit home all day with a glass of wine in hand (of course!) watching the food network as if our life depends on it! And that’s exactly how our amazing day was spent! It was awesome. It had been a while since Al and I had stayed home and did nothing. I mean nothing! So after much inspiration from Rachel Ray’s 30 Minute Meals, Giada at Home, and Down with the Neelys, we got cooking with the future Aguasvivas. (more…)

Bistec de Palomilla

Good food always makes someone feel better, doesn’t it?! Okay wait, something is missing.

Take two:

Good food and wine (please forgive me that won’t ever happen again) always makes someone feel better, doesn’t it?

Right on!

That’s the thought that began another Sunday night adventure. (more…)

Chicken Soup for the Cuban Soul????

20 Jan

Sopa de Pollo Recipe

“Isn’t chicken soup suppose to be the ultimate comfort food?!?!” I rhetorically asked Al as we sipped through our “Sopa de Pollo.” His nod said it all. He didn’t admit it (as he never does) but he knew, that I knew, that it just wasn’t great! (more…)

Arroz con Pollo –A Traditional Caribbean Dish!

10 Jan

Arroz con Pollo Recipe

Food critic night at the Aguasvivas/Pagan household! Recipe of choice: Arroz con Pollo (chicken with rice).

As Al and I stared at the recipe we knew this would be a big night! We had all our friends coming over. It was turning out to be our first official dinner party! Guests of honor: Patty, Hubby, Laura, Amable, and Ilsa.

Ilsa, Amable’s sister whom we had never met. Yes, never met! Talk about pressure! She owed us nothing; she would be the voice of truth. I’m sure I shouldn’t say this but all I could think was, “It’s just not fair!” (more…)

Fritas & Papitas –An American Classic Prepared Cuban Style!

28 Dec

Fritas (Cuban Burger)

What more can two foodies ask for besides great food, you ask?! GREAT COMPANY to share it with!

And that’s exactly how our Sunday night was spent.

Our friends Awilda and George* came over whom we hadn’t seen since our trip to Europe back in May. First on the agenda; a lot of catching up to do! You see, George proposed to Awilda in Spain and I needed to be completely updated on all the wedding details. And if that wasn’t enough, I was cooking fritas – the Cuban version of the American Hamburger –for the first time ever! Too much to do, too little time! (more…)
