Shepard’s Pie! Meat and Potatoes, Baby!

18 Feb

Our newly discovered Sunday ritual: Sit home all day with a glass of wine in hand (of course!) watching the food network as if our life depends on it! And that’s exactly how our amazing day was spent! It was awesome. It had been a while since Al and I had stayed home and did nothing. I mean nothing! So after much inspiration from Rachel Ray’s 30 Minute Meals, Giada at Home, and Down with the Neelys, we got cooking with the future Aguasvivas.

Note to self: Keep my last name. Love him to pieces, but really I just can’t! ;)

On the menu: Shepard’s Pie! Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! I mean can you ever really go wrong with meat and potatoes. I think not! But best of all, using Mrs. Rodriguez’s Picadillo (Ground Beef) recipe. It was truly perfection! How could it not be, when the recipe called for mixing olive oil, garlic cloves (my favorite!), onions, green peppers, cooking wine, tomato sauce and the list goes on and on. Ahhh! I can still smell the aroma of all those ingredients fusing together. TO DIE FOR!!!

As if life at that moment couldn’t get any better, Mrs. Rodriguez really laid it on me. Her mash potatoes recipe totally took it up a notch! Like the famous Emeril Lagesse would say, “BAM!” So without any further ado, I got right to it. “Combine the milk, butter, and cream into a bowl,” I read. “Bring two quarts of water to a boil in a large pot.” “Add potatoes and garlic cloves,” it continued. I was totally in the zone, when I noticed that Al was starting at me like a kid in a candy store. It was then that it honestly hit me. Our picture should be next to the word foodie in the dictionary. I mean really, here I am thinking I’m in heaven or at least my version of it and there is Al looking like he’s never had a bite to eat in his life. It just made me crack up! The only words I could think of were “We are one hot mess, I tell you!” Hahaha—Too funny!

5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15, minutes, oh my! Okay we were almost there—to heaven that is. Ding! 20 minutes were up and the baking was done! The best part was upon us. Chowing down! With the first bites in play the room went quiet. You could hear a pin drop for god sakes. Mmmmmm….broke the silence. It was so so good! Best Shepard’s Pie I’ve ever had.

This is definitely a must try!

So from our kitchen to yours, let the cooking escapades continue.

Okay before I go I need to get something off my chest. How can I only be heading into Day 8? I feel like I’ve cooked half the world and back. So I counted, 119 recipes to go. Whoa! Wish me luck!! Lots of it, plllleeeeaaasssseeeee!

OHHHH MAN! Out of all the recipes we have done from the Sabor Cookbook this is my favorite. It tastes so good. I practically ate everything. Around 1 in the morning I found myself warming up the oven and throwing leftovers back in there… Definitely a Must Try!!
