So So Service at Mambo Tea House

Mambo Tea House

Glenn’s Birthday Dinner! THE BIG 24! His Choice…Mambo Tea House in Rutherford, NJ. This is the second time we go there and can’t say the service was as good this time around. Cute place, cozy feel, zen atmosphere. Best thing about it is that it is BYOB! Brought some Riesling (my favorite type of wine). Al only drinks red wine, hence the Coronas at the table. Growing up in a Hispanic household, I can say that these are not authentic dishes! Okay, let me explain, it’s like going to Rosa Mexicano to have Mexican tacos as opposed to going to the local spot down the street. Point is… the tacos can’t even be compared. They both taste good, but totally different!

With that said, here is the deal breaker! I am biiiggggg on service! Did I say big, I meant HUGE on service!!! The story goes something like this… Glenn (my cousin) goes and orders a Churasco (skirt steak). Being the pickiest eater I have ever encountered he ensures that his skirt steak is served well done and must be served plain, nothing on it. I mean nothing. The girl brings it back with chimichuri sauce (I love it! Great sauce! A must try!) He, however wants to crawl under the table and die. He calls the girl over and explains his dilemma (love him but he is so dramatic). She takes the plate and about 5 minutes later she emerges from the kitchen. Okay, so here it goes, ready…. At a glance, the skirt steak seemed fine, but Glenn being Glenn examined it as if his life depended on it. What did they do, you ask?…they scraped off the sauce and just turned the steak around, attempting to try to hide the residue left on it. No worries the steak didn’t go to waste, Al ending up eating it (I call him my little vacuum cleaner). But to me that’s a no no! All in all, don’t know if I would ever return, just not my cup of tea (no pun intended).

Well I’ve been there a few times and the food is always really Good! You are right though, the staff themselves are great people but the service isn’t always 100%. I’ll still keep going, in this case the food out weighs the service for me.
